Summary
Spalling, scaling, and surface deterioration describe the loss of concrete surface integrity resulting in flaking, chipping, or fragment detachment. These conditions may develop due to curing variables, environmental exposure, moisture intrusion, freeze-thaw cycling, chemical interaction, or mechanical stress. While the structural slab may remain intact, surface deterioration may affect flooring adhesion, flatness compatibility, and substrate preparation requirements. The condition reflects substrate performance characteristics rather than a defect in the flooring material.
